Atlantic Pumps helped year 12 and 13 students from across South Yorkshire get their first glimpse of the world of work last Thursday when they attended the Focus School Careers Day.
Organised by the Bramley Campus, the rewarding one day event took place at Rotherham FC’s AES Seals New York Stadium and was attended by exhibitors from across the region and represented a broad range of industries.
Students were greeted at the stadium by the sight of the Atlantic Pumps Leyland DAF army truck parked just outside the entrance. Once on our stand they could watch a career orientated video, view our products and engage with staff members as we helped them explore the wealth of opportunities available to them post-school, develop their networking skills and begin to plan for their futures.
For some of our staff, the day presented the opportunity to give back to their former school. Sales Coordinator Mark McCreadie graduated from the school in 2012 and gave an insightful talk on post-education.
“My speech was on the key challenges faced when leaving school, what to expect and how to adapt to new environments. Talking to the students throughout the day, they all seemed really competent and confident and this was something all the team commented on afterwards.”
Talking about the event, Atlantic Pumps Managing Director Andrew Smith said “Giving young people a chance is a key part of our culture at Atlantic Pumps and it has been massively repaid by the energy and enthusiasm of those we’ve recruiting. As a number of these have come from Bramley Campus it was excellent to get the chance of attending their Careers Fair”.
