Dust suppression pumps

The creation of dust when quarrying, processing and transporting aggregates is more than just a nuisance.

Dust is a health hazard to workers at the quarry and to the neighbouring community. Dusts, regardless of what they contain, have recently been identified as possible causes of COPD. The Health and Safety Executive are beginning to clamp down on any activities which create dust and require quarry operators to install and maintain effective dust suppression systems to prevent the problem.

Typical activities which create dust are:

  • Blasting
  • Crushing
  • Screening
  • Haul roads
  • Storage yards
  • Asphalt plants

Dust suppression systems can come in many different forms depending on the site location, surface area to be covered and the type of processing undertaken. Atlantic Pumps are able to specify and supply many different types of pump for powering suppression systems. These include high pressure pumps and water transfer pumps for moving water around the site.
